Kids Cosplay Contest (Ages 16 and younger)
from 1:00 PM – 3:15 PM
COSPLAY IS AN ALL AGES EVENT:
The cosplay contest should be considered a “PG-13” rated event at the most. The judgment of what is acceptable is left to the sole discretion of the cosplay director and Ashika-con staff.
We will have awards with prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in both the Adult and Kids cosplay contests.
Cosplay Contest Rules:
-
You must be a registered Ashika-con attendee in order to compete.
-
You can sign up for the cosplay contest online or at Ashika-con registration.
-
Both contests will have only 10 contestants.
-
Entrants 16 and under will be designated to the Kid’s contest, must have their parents' permission to enroll and must be accompanied by a legal guardian or relative of age at the event.
-
All costumes must at minimum cover "swimsuit areas" to adhere to the "PG-13” guideline, including the use of language and hand gestures during the contest.
-
Contestants are not allowed to throw anything off the stage, nor use projectiles or use anything on stage that will leave a mess. This includes (but is not limited to) liquids, glitter, and confetti.
-
Each walk-on cosplay contestant will have approximately 1 minute or so to walk across the stage, pose, and talk about their cosplay costume to the audience. Then they will talk to the judges briefly in more detail about their cosplay.
-
We know that people have different levels of cosplay skills in costume making, and that will be taken into account by our contest judges.
-
All cosplay events have the potential to be photographed/filmed/recorded in some fashion. These recordings may be used in future event galleries or promotions. Signing up for, and/or attending, any cosplay event is done with the understanding that recording could occur at any time, and permission is tacitly given for the participant's likeness to be used.
During the pre-judging phase, judges evaluate contestants based on the following criteria:
-
Technique:
-
Did the contestant demonstrate a range of techniques?
-
Did they challenge themselves by learning new skills while crafting the costume?
-
Did they innovate or discover unique methods in the process?
-
-
Execution:
-
How well were the techniques applied?
-
Are the edges polished, and is the foam properly sealed?
-
Does the costume exhibit durability and high-quality craftsmanship?
-
-
Creativity:
-
Does the contestant's passion for their character and costume shine through?
-
Have they made thoughtful and creative choices that reflect the character and their world?
-
Did they add unique touches to showcase the character’s personality?
-
Does the costume effectively represent the character it’s based on?
-
Note: Participants in the Walk-on category will only be judged on creativity.
